Valentine Willie's art gallery has seriously breached the norms!

A piece of real art work exhibited by a respectable art gallery?

When a friend showed me a picture of a huge piece of "art" work by Fahmi Reza depicting "Prime Minister Dato' Sri Najib Razak at a scene of a crime", complete with a yellow police lines, I said to myself I better go and check it out. I thought it was crude for the owner to allow it!
True enough when I went over to Valentine Willie art gallery in Bangsar and I was agape and stunned. There in front of me in a room against the wall was a picture of Najib with his body drawn or fixed to the floor where you stepped on and was told the piece had nothing to do with the PM but rather the piece is about vandalism, so the sketchy explanation went on by one of the gallery's staff.
Art expression is one thing but for a respectable gallery not respecting the present prime minister by exhibiting the smut disguised as an art piece is another ! Come on Valentine Willie you can do better than that!
I just hope the piece has been taken down because I really like that gallery! Read more here..

This is a form of expression.
Same like the way a guy threw shoes at Bush.

I know, you will defend the 'shoe throwing incident'. Because Bush and his actions 'affected' you very much?

Hence no word of 'reprimand' from you for the guy who threw it. In fact you may have just done the reverse - featuring the shoe thrower as a 'hero'.

You are very very clouded in your grey matter.

What more about your concern for this 'art' display?

You so worried about Najib being stepped upon?

Then why not you tell the print media not to have Najib's face at all in their publications?

Otherwise, you may even be offended if a poor nasi lemak selling Malay mak cik uses old newspapers with Najib's photo to bungkus nasi lemak for a Chinese Malaysian who has grown to appreciate Malay delicacies.

Your view is utter nonsense lah.
You are barking at wrong things.
But do continue, as we need real examples of freedom of expression, even if they are nonsense.

We can tell our former coloinal master that we are in fact better than them, with species like you.

To anonymous at 10.31am,

You are missing a point here we are also running a gallery in Bangsar but we will not be stupid enough to exhibit any desecration piece of people especially that of our prime minister just common sense and a common decency even if we do not like him!

Keep it up VW!

shahfudin, we cant be making a police report every thie when someone did something stupid and insensitive, but as a citizen we have to be sensitive to our surrounding, we have to be responsible for our own action!

I was made to understand Valentine Willie is a good friend of Kalimullah Hassan so I am not surprise! both are not najib's fan but to do that?!

Good job man!

Shocking that people like Fahmi have stooped that low. How low can one go now? Maybe these people are being "paid" to do the job or are just getting organism thrill out of it!!!

Re my post at 4:26pm. Correction: It's "ORGASMIC thrill" not organism. Typo...

not this is ART

you know it works when people started talking about it. clearly the artist was playing an homage to the sex pistol queen artwork. don't be too sensitive. have a sense of humour

we all know najib is innocent. why act all indignant. we know he is the best. why care about a few insane "artist" and their irrelevant artwork

now if you excuse me i will be looking at some real art. billboards along putrajaya with najib head ever smiling and looking down on you like propaganda posters in Moscow circa 1912

everyone in the public eye is vulnerable to praise or criticism. it comes with the job and it was his choice. why get your panties knotted up over someone's opinion of another mortal man?

the man in the artwork is not being tortured, abused or thrown into jail. he's just the subject of someone's opinion. you have your own, so does he. and i respect VW for giving the artist his freedom of "speech".

shoobaba, of course I believe in freedom of expression but the thing is I did not expect VW gallery to descecrate a picture of our PM because he is our friend, including Karim, on he same nnote why not picture of YB BABI or BAdawi?! I think VW has to apologise to Najib for that

I think this is clear evidence that Najib is too good at being PM.

So his "enemies" had to go all the way to bring disrepute to him.

When all else fails, you can always resort to ART and the art lovers can always justify their wishy washy "interpretation".

Let's pray that Najib will not be distracted by the 'below the belt' tactics.

When you are hated by the devil, by default you are the angel.

P.S. Only devils HATE, angels don't.

pasquale, perhaps one day they will have artwork criticising other personalities (and maybe they already have), but as this was the work of one person, it's quite impossible for him to have opposing views at the same time.

to be honest, as well, i doubt Najib would be really very much bothered by this artwork. he gets so much more grief from other quarters, and like i said, ppl in the public eye are, or have to get, used to ppl having opinions about them.

VW shouldn't be made to apologise if they don't believe in the apology anyway. that would just be forcing an insincere reaction, and creating resentment from many people.

let people do what they want, if they can express their dissatisfaction in ways other than abusing the law and indiscriminately arresting people, then i think they should just be allowed to show people that there is always more than one side or opinion to a story.

that's what i understand as learning from others and making your own judgment, and that's what our brains are for. not to be told things and made to accept them. that just creates lazy minds and ignorant citizens. we want people to appreciate the government because they sincerely do, and not because they're forced to keep quiet about their disagreements.

SHOOBABA... SEEMS THAT ALOT OF ARTIST ESPECIALLY IN BANGSAR FEELS THAT IT IS THEIR RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS (BUT ACTUALLY THEIR POLITICAL VIEW LA TUH). THE THING IS FOR A LAY MAN LIKE ME I VIEW ART AS SOMETHING FROM THE HEART AND WOULD TRIGGER EMOTIONS (SAD,HAPPY, ETC) BUT THIS IS JUST A WAY OF USING THE VERY BROAD DEFINITION WHICH WE CALL ART TO EXPRESS YOUR POLITICAL VIEW.
IF THIS IS THE RESULT OF THIS ARTIST ART WORK THAN I SHUDDER FOR ARTIST ALL OVER MALAYSIA.
EVEN WITH CENSORSHIP AN ARTIST IS NOT A PETULANT CHILD JUST VENTING BUT A CREATIVE PERSON WHO COMMUNICATES HIS FELLINGS AND EMOTIONS TO OTHERS. BTW - STUDYING ART DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN ARTIST.
