TPP is going to be a "one-sided" trade partnership! If we are bullied to submission!

Whether he is white of black president....from Teddy Roosevelt to Barack Obama....the US trade policy vis-a-vis the world has always been a one sided affairs that involves bullying to submission of other perceived smaller and weaker countries, like Malaysia!

The United States had never really change its gunboat trade diplomacy since the days of Teddy Roosevelt! In the lampooning just change Republic of Santo Domingo to Malaysia!

And for sure without transparency, the public is in no position to form an opinion, and the country will be forever sold to big super Multi-National Corporations (MNCs!)

AT the turn of the last century, when American hegemony was on the rise, it bullied nations, including the British Empire, to accept free trade. Over time, the concept became formalised as the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which was later replaced by the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Of course, there is nothing wrong with trade agreements generally. Nevertheless, GATT died because there was so much wrong with the international trade regime, especially terms of trade that were skewed in favour of the wealthier economies. Raw materials from the Third World counted for a fraction of the value-added articles manufactured in the First World.
At present, Malaysia is playing host to the 18th round of talks on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, conducted behind closed doors in Sabah. Lacking transparency -- arguably a necessity given that this is still being negotiated -- it leaves the public uneasy in a world said to be ruled by transparency. That the rules of democracy should change so when dealing with major economies like the United States, often shameless bullies, is a point of contention. And, the little information that is leaking past the cracks, as in the New Zealand case appear to suggest, there are potentially menacing issues that cannot be ignored.
Take for example the issue of sovereignty. The New Zealand negotiations suggest that if signed, the country will be preparing to make itself more amenable to foreign big business. So amenable will New Zealand be to big business that companies may sue the government for legislation deemed to have cost the company dearly under the process called Investor State Dispute Settlement. These are the major issues. Apparently, there are many others that will not impact well on ordinary Kiwis.
That is what has been pieced together despite the web of secrecy. In Malaysia, the international trade and industry minister has given the public assurances that the people's interests will be protected. The attraction for the country as an exporter is obvious: the combined market resulting from the agreement. There is, too, the obvious advantage for Malaysian multinationals like Sime Darby and Petronas. But worries have been raised on how far the economic penetration of large multinationals will be in this country. Will they involve themselves in building projects, say, and thus take away business from Malaysian companies? The minister has pointedly rejected this notion. Those who are pro-TPP argue for growth and employment as part of a 12-nation trade grouping. A United Nations study commissioned by the ministry supports this position. In spite of previous problems he inherited, Najib did well!

I read with such consternation of prominent and known blogger, or bloggers, condemning Prime Minister Najib Razak's "dismal" performance of the 13th General Elections under his watch.
Let us put this in correct perspective. The 12th General Elections saw the Barisan Nasional (BN) lost Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Perak, Selangor and the Federal Territories to the opposition. The man responsible for the loss was Dollah Badawi, the famous sleeping prime minister.
During the last 13th general elections, under Najib as the prime minister, BN took back Kedah, reduced Kelantan majority, had Perak fully entrenched under BN rules.
For the first time in any electoral history the country saw a very stark increase in Malay voters, Umno seats increased to eight more, and FT won another seat.  BN also managed to reduce the PAS majority in Kelantan. That was hardly dismal I would say.
The fact that Malay votes have increased also showed the Malays under Najib are now more conscious of their own existence in their own country.
Under Najib, we have to admit that Penang was a hard nut to crack, and we expect it will be even harder to do so in future. Nevertheless, under Najib after the 13th general elections, Umno seats have increased from 79 to 88 seats.
Unfortunately for Najib, the Chinese voters have gone ballistically to the opposition, where we saw the MCA being mutilated beyond recognition. Happily MIC increased its performance by gaining one seat.
So to these prominent and known bloggers, it is not fair to condemn Najib for not being able to acquire a 2/3 majority, considering the handicap he had after taking over from Dollah Badawi, the sleeping former PM, Najib was sincere in  trying to put the country back together.
Like after Humpty Dumpty and Dollah Badawi, it's going to take a while before the country can be put together again. It can and will be!

Triquetra = samosas = a no, no, for Somalia muslims!!

Samosas good to eat!

Truquetra, that shapes like samosas..

Christian Fish symbolises early Chriatian religion

Samosas on the cover of New King James Version bible...

                                                          *Breaking News*

Archbishop Joseph Salvador Marino was born in Birmingham, Alabama, USA in 1953.  He is an American, not Italian or European.  Chances are he is working for the CIA, but one thing is for sure he is a good friend of the former US Ambassador to Malaysia, that obnoxious John Mallot.  So are we surprised!

Probably unrelated to Papal Nuncio's statement about Allah and God but a bunch of Islamist in Somalia decided to ban samosas, a famous food for the Somalian, because they shaped like the Blessed Trinity or Triquetra. I hoped they are not going to also ban fish since it also symbolises early Christian religion.

"Islamist group in Somalia bans samosas after deciding they're too Western

Militants believe triangular snack 'resembles Christian Holy Trinity'  Read more here!

The symbol has been used by Christians as a sign of the Blessed Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), especially since the Celtic Revival of the 19th century. When modern designers began to display the triquetra as a stand-alone design, it recalled the three-leafed shamrock which was similarly offered as a Trinity symbol by Saint Patrick. Some have also suggested that the triquetra has a similarity to the Christian Ιχθυς symbol. The triquetra has been used extensively on Christian sculpture, vestments, book arts and stained glass. It has been used on the title page and binding of some editions of the New King James Version.

Whoa!! TPPA?! It started with the evil intent Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI)!

Citizens against the signing!
New Zealander wants their freedom from neo-colonisation!
Started with this stillborm monster!

"The Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI) was a draft agreement negotiated between members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 1995–1998. Its ostensible purpose was to develop multilateral rules that would ensure international investment was governed in a more systematic and uniform way between states. When its draft became public in 1997, it drew widespread criticism from civil society groups and developing countries, particularly over the possibility that the agreement would make it difficult to regulate foreign investors. After an intense global campaign was waged against the MAI by the treaty's critics, the host nation France announced in October 1998 that it would not support the agreement, effectively preventing its adoption due to the OECD's consensus procedures." read more here

Yesterday, it was an evil economic monster called MAI, and today that monster is known in a different name, the Trans Pacific PartnershipAgreement  (TPPA), in which the partnership will be, for sure, a one sided affairs sucking dry resources of the developing countries like  Malaysia.
In between MAI and TPP, this monster emerged in many forms, such as General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT)  and World Trade Organisation (WTO), but this  monster was "killed" beginning with MAI, after a long world wide campaign was declared a failure. The same goes with GATT and MAI.
Plainly put if this economic monster is/was allowed to be into being, countries, like Malaysia will lose control of its assets, riches and basically their sovereignty.
If MAI was allowed to be successfully signed then and agreed upon, five or six successive Malaysians governments would not be able to rescind or cancel the agreement made lest if it wants to be sued billions my foreign multi-national corporations, or raiders!  The same problem will be faced by successive Malaysian governments if we agreed on TPPA!
World agreement such as the TPPA must not be allowed to be decided by a particular ministry, if Malaysia is truly a democratic society the people must be allowed to give feed back on the pros and cons----mainly cons----of the wisdom of allowing our country to be neo-colonised again.
I wouldn't want to , would you?
In the 90s, I have  personally been campaigning online against the the evil of MAI, countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada that I know of went against the MAI, it was "killed" when France refused to rectify the agreement, so MAI was actually still born.
During an assignment in 1994, at a press conference at Sungai Besi army airport at the end of it I asked an additional out of topic question to the the then prime minister, Tun Mahathir Mohamad, whether we have decided on whether to support MAI, he looked at me in disbelief and sat down then explained the virtue of not supporting MAI. Read here! And here!
Here was the thing no other reporters understood what MAI was all about then let alone asked pertinent question about the agreement.  So yours truly had to give a small post-"press conference" to enlighten on the finer points of the issue to his colleagues.
I sure hope that on the TPPA that we Malaysians from all walks of life must be allowed to express our views on the matter...otherwise what is the point of claiming to be living in a democratic system!
Finally, in the final analysis we have to ask ourselves whether we still want to be colonised AGAIN by the western power for them to control our resources only for their own benefits, I assure you!

I can't help but feeling unsafe....as a citizen, that is!

I can't help having this feeling the country is not safe anymore. Why? Just read the paper about people being raped, kidnapped and shot at, recently a school teacher. A school teacher?!!
You read about machete wielding people slashing at customers while they were having dinner at a restaurants, for God sake!
I know this feeling is for real for I did not feel it then and why am I feeling it now.
It appears as though the laws are not being respected by the people anymore and for some repeated offenders they are as though saying "catch me if you can" knowing the men in blue who also appear to be afraid to discharge their duty.
Unless the government  is continuously being perceived to be weak and accommodating, to criminals especially, well we will not see the end of this unsafe feelings.
For a start the Sedition Act 1948 must be properly em placed and protected and this is to ensure a strong deterrent to criminal activity.  This Act is constitutional and cannot and should not be challenged for it has a greater good purpose.
I suggest the government should exercised this mechanism, this Act, to protect its citizen and to make the country safe for nasty elements.

My Way, The UMNO Way (Reproduced without permission...I am sureHantu Laut does not mind!)

(Note by BM:I  hope every relevant member of Umno, including the top hierachy, will read this piece reproduced withour permission from Hantu Laut  blogsite...what he said is true, Umno is not a private club if we do not act or change fast now we are a GONER, or simply put, we are fucked!)

By Hantu Laut

Change, reform, transformation, reconstruction, renewing, or whatever name you want to give it,  if you take no effort to do what you promised, you'll eventually be fucked! No! I am not going to spell fuck as f@##k as those who want to be seen to be politically correct. If you are fucked, that's it, you are finished, your are done with!

Kaput!

If it is not now, it's a matter of time, it'll come. Reform and transformation are words that have been tossed around since Godfather Mahathir left the scene and the wimps took over and with a whimper of a promise, promised change that they have no desire to carry through.

Frankly, I think UMNO had no desire to change, UMNO is stuck in the quagmire and hellbent in running the country as they deemed fit, the UMNO ways. I think there are many like me, the unacknowledged bloggers that have been supporting their cause for nothing and are tired and have had enough of defending people who have no desire of returning this country to the right path.

UMNO must change! How many times have we heard this word uttered whenever the party's barometric level goes up and stormy weather looms ahead? Former Prime Minister Ahmad Badawi had said it many times since the black day of March 2008, but nothing had came out of it.

The only change that happened was changing of the guard in UMNO from Badawi to Najib, who like his predecessor had also uttered "CHANGE" umpteen times, yet change remains elusive. Now, the Malay first, Malaysian second Deputy Prime Minister says the same thing that "UMNO must change if they want to stay relevant" Will they ?

No, not exactly, those are pretences and propaganda that are now losing its lustre. Many leaders in UMNO seemed to think upsetting the Malay masses would be disastrous for UMNO, which are pretences and propaganda to hoodwink the Malay masses, particularly, in the rural and semi-rural areas. T

he Malays in the streets knew they have always been taken for a ride and always get raw end of the deal and more often than not would have not benefited from the "ketuanan Melayu" bullshit. The NEP had been completely abused to serve the interests of UMNO leaders and warlords.

Maintaining the status quo had become so irresistible to these leaders, come what may, they will not change. Even a low ranking UMNO leaders can make millions if he knows which apple to polish. One have to go round the country to see the sub-standard and shoddy works of completed government projects that have gone through the UMNO laundry machine.

One can see the obvious of the extent of power and influence of the UMNO warlords by the Prime Minister's recent action of appointing those dropped at the last elections with cosy and rewarding jobs in GLCs and other government agencies.

UMNO elected members continue to show their revolting habit and lack of intellectuality by asking anyone that criticises the government or Malay rights to migrate to other countries. How much shallower can you get with this kind of response?

UMNO has plenty of these all brawn and no brain MPs. Even half a Rafizi they don't have. Najib, whom many had been looking forward to execute radical changes had been a big disappointment so far. With such poor kick start can we expect him to bring about meaningful changes?

He is still surrounded by the same old people, the same old politics of patronage, cronyism and nepotism. He has to pay tributes to these self-serving bloodsuckers and re-appoint them to other pivotal positions.

His Temasek wannabe sovereign vehicle 1MDB had become the butt of jokes and laughing stock of the financial world after paying the highest fee ever of 7.7 % of the face value of the bonds to Goldman Sach for underwriting fees. The industry average for that year was 1.32 % for junk bonds.

The Malaysian government had given a "Letter Of Comfort" to Goldman Sach, which did not amount to a guarantee, but for all intents and purposes was not necessary and is a useless piece of document, because 1MDB is wholly owned by the Malaysian government and in the event of a default the Malaysian government, with or without the letter of comfort, will have no choice, in order to save its credit rating and credibility, will have to make good the default and that will be taxpayer's money out of the window.

The people at Goldman Sach know it, the people at 1MDB don't. I presumed the bonds are US$ denominated and the currency can go north or south making the bonds vulnerable to foreign exchange currency fluctuations. If the US$ goes north at maturity than bad luck for 1MDB, the Malaysian government and the Malaysian people, there could be huge forex losses.

It may not too late for Najib to kick asses at 1MDB, remove those morons and replace with people who know the industry well. No change? I can't foresee BN, or rather UMNO winning the 14th GE. UMNO may still be able to keep the rural Malay votes in the Peninsula, but Sabah and Sarawak will be gone.

No more fixed deposit for BN. There will be no more BN by then, just UMNO against the rest of the country. The erosion of KDM votes in the 13th GE in Sabah is a prelude to complete desertion in the 14th GE. The same scenario prevails in Sarawak. From now on this blog will post less of local politics and more of blast from the past....... articles from the archives of the international press on the history of this region.

Many of you would know the song "My Way" made famous by Frank Sinatra. Even former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad know how to sing it. I am sure many UMNO members can also sing the song.

Women are third class...say FIS of Algeria, Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt, PAS (PKR) of Malaysia!!

It distresses me to hear half-baked Koran-thumping fake ustaz like the one in the video talking about women as though they are a no-entity and a non-person!! But, it distresses me much  more to see how the rest of the morons sitting around him agreeing to everything he said.
Dressed like Hamas Muslim Brotherhood and even donning the trademark beard of a Salafist Muslim chauvinist, this ustaz or a "religious teacher" must be ignored, but alas his followers are those affected by BABI educationa policy when he was an Education Minister, when he was in Umno, creating policy that he knowingly would lead to chaos today.
Every sensible Malay-Muslims must come to their senses to reject the chauvinistic brand of "Islam" as taught and propagated by people like this! Selamat Menyambut Bulan Ramadhan Yang Suci Ini!

FIS tried it, so did Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, and now BABI attempting the same!

The Islamic Salvation Front of Algeria, or Front Islamique du Salut or FIS, won an election in Algeria in 1991, which, among other things that it did, empowered and given them the rights to "imprison" women at home and not allowing them to work nor to drive a car.
FIS then was made appealing to the half educated youth and the lower urban class of Algeria where these disenchanted  group supported this pseudo-Islamic party in toto. Read more here!
First order of the day when the FIS swept to power was to control the women, why I do not understand.
The Algerian military Establishment then had wanted to promote democracy by allowing Islamic parties, such as FIS, to get involved in elections, and when they saw the opportunity the FIS went with a vengeance by implementing man-made Islamic rules that were not even stated in the Holy Koran.
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in Egypt had a similar appeal to the disenfranchised youth and the lower urban class and won the general elections, but less than a year the MB under its leader Mursi ceased to be for being too extremely anti-rules of basic law, such as allowing women to work or to drive cars.
The MB, like the FIS, again tried to put women in check.  What is with these half-past six Muslim leaders of the world trying to control Muslim women!?
In such extreme cases women were told to drape themselves with thick curtain-like material over their bodies and told to cover their heads with bath towels, all in the name of Islam.  No where in the Holy Book it says women have to cover their heads.  Read here!
Then there is a little man in Malaysia popularly known as BABI, who tried to do the same as his bretheren in the FIS in Algeria, the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt tried to do and failed miserably!
Another senile old man in Kelantan also does the same to his women.  He said women who wear a dress without a tudung can be raped!!! Read the rubbish here!
If I had not mentioned it already but both FIS in Algeria and MB in Egypt have been check-mated!
I just hope Malay-Muslims in this country will wake up and try to use their common sense as not to be duped by BABI and his chauvinist Chinese cohorts into believing their outrages lies!
While other progressive societies have split atom and excelled in science and technology and sent robot to Mars, a precursor to colonising this red planet, Muslim leaders around the world are pre-occupied with containing women's progress and telling them to cover up!  What the heck!!!
